Avid hikers

Magnhild and Kåre Norstad are avid hikers, and they were not difficult to ask when Destination Trysil and DnT Engerdal & Trysil were looking for trail sponsors to Varlia. The relatively easy hike sailed straight into fourth place among the most visited summit hikes.

- The people we have spoken to are very positive, especially about the view, and that it is an easy walk. It is a dry and nice path. Many will be surprised when they reach the top - here you can see all the way to Rondane on clear days, says Magnhild.

Professional Tips

A trail buddy's tasks consist of making sure that the trail is in good condition. This means that the path is cleared of twigs in the spring, and make sure that markings and signage are in order. The marking of the trails must be done according to the requirements of the Marking Handbook, which serves as a national standard for the facilitation and visibility of hiking routes.

- We have received a lot of good information from DnT, says Magnhild. They have explained the procedure to us, and we have also participated in a sign course organized by them. Before the hiking season started in full, we were out on the trail and limbed, and then we had three trips with paint and signage, Kåre continues.

Pride and ownership

In addition to Vardlia, Kåre and Magnhild are also trail sponsors on the trip to Hatten, which is also part of Trysil's hiking program.
